To support the wellbeing of our students, He Huarahi Tamariki has a full-time counsellor and a social support person. Our chef makes morning teas and lunches for our students and in addition we provide breakfast supplies. We often have food donations that are available for students to take home and we are well supported by many community groups with new and used baby items.
Transport to school is provided within the Porirua basin and the northern Suburbs of Wellington, otherwise we fund public transport. If a student is driving to school we provide some financial assistance with petrol costs.
We have weekly visits from a doctor and a nurse and Birth Education classes are also available. Tamariki Ora and Plunket visit regularly for Well Child appointments and when requested The Outreach Immunisation service visits. Partners Porirua, Wellington Youth Service, and various Family Start agencies visit regularly to connect with students they support.
In addition, the He Huarahi Tamariki Trust provides support in the form of scholarships for our graduates going on to further study. They also support wellbeing kaupapa for our current students.
